Overview

Samburu National Reserve is one of Kenya’s most breathtaking safari destinations, known for its rugged beauty and unique wildlife. Unlike the more frequented parks, Samburu offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience. Here, you’ll find the Special Five—Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx—alongside elephants, big cats, and countless other species. With the Ewaso Nyiro River running through it, the reserve is a haven for both animals and visitors looking to experience Kenya’s wild side.

Tour Plan

Your journey kicks off in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel or the airport. After a short briefing, you’ll hit the road for a scenic drive towards Samburu, passing through stunning landscapes along the way. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at your camp or lodge and enjoy a delicious lunch before settling in.

In the afternoon, you’ll head out for your first game drive, exploring the reserve’s open plains and acacia-studded terrain. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, big cats, and the Special Five that make this park so unique. As the sun sets, you’ll return to camp for dinner and a relaxing night surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Wake up to the crisp morning air and set off for an early game drive, the best time to catch predators in action. Samburu is famous for its thriving lion, leopard, and cheetah populations, as well as large elephant herds often seen near the Ewaso Nyiro River.

After breakfast, take some time to unwind at camp before heading out for another afternoon drive. This time, explore deeper into the park, looking out for the gerenuk—often seen standing on its hind legs to reach high branches—or spotting crocodiles basking by the riverbanks. As the day ends, you’ll return for dinner and a restful night under the stars.

Enjoy a final morning game drive before breakfast, making the most of your last moments in the wild. Afterward, you’ll check out and begin your journey back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of an unforgettable Samburu adventure.
